The Garden Party: Plot Summary

It was a beautiful day for a garden party, at least, that’s what the Sheridan thought. Meet the rich Sheridan family from New Zealand. We know they are wealthy socialites because the first fragments of the story are related to planning and preparations for an elaborate party. Workers have been hired to help with the setup, an area has been created for the band, flowers are being delivered and the chef is making elaborate sandwiches and cream sandwiches. His daughter, Laura, has been in charge of the last-minute party plans. She is busy fluttering to make sure that every detail is liked by her mother: the flowers are arranged in the same way, the food is perfectly prepared and the placement of the tent does not prevent the view of the beautiful karaka trees. However, Laura is equally entertained by the workers themselves, enjoying her company although she knows that she is in a different social class from theirs.
